Christafari supports and is a representative of Food for the Hungry, a Christian relief and development organization founded in 1971 that feeds physical and spiritual hungers in more than 25 of the world's poorest countries. Programs include child sponsorships, agriculture and water system development, education and skills training, micro-enterprise loans and more. Ministry opportunities include short-term construction and medical teams and longer-term assignments through their unique Hunger Corps program. A Message From Mark Mohr about Food for the Hungry and Christafari's visit to Africa:

In May of 1998 we had the privilege of going to Africa with the Christian child sponsorship and relief organization, Food for the Hungry. Our itinerary included visiting child sponsorship sites, schools, water projects, homes, and even ghettos. We toured extensively from the Southern most to the Northern most parts of Uganda and Kenya, and even ventured into Southern Ethiopia.

One of the most memorable moments for me was meeting my sponsor child, Lawrence. He is a 7 year old boy who lives in a hut with a grass roof, mud walls, and a dung floor. He is being raised by his father since his mother abandoned the family a few years ago. He helps out his dad by planting vegetables and helping raise the chickens and goats. Through my monthly support, Lawrence will be able to afford to go to school and get a uniform. This money will also go toward Lawrence's health and pay for any medical bills.

Food for the Hungry is also involved in water programs soLawrence will not have to drink water that gives him worms in his stomach. Water that is not disease infested is a rare commodity in the dry Savannah. Although Lawrence raises animals and plants vegetables for food, Food for the Hungry will provide relief food supplies when drought or famine strikes. My $24.00(US) a month also goes toward assisting the community. It helps build new classrooms for his school, pay teachers' salaries, buy school desks, and support clean water and health programs. All the children in the community benefit from the programs, not just my sponsor child.

In addition to taking care of people's physical needs, Food for the Hungry also takes care of their spiritual needs by reaching out to them with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It was exciting to participate in a church meeting in one of the villages and witness first hand the spiritual impact this organization can have in a community. That's what Jesus did, He took care of their physical needs first and then addressed their spiritual needs.
